Una proposta del Centro Impastato:
un “Memoriale-Laboratorio” della lotta alla mafia
Qualche tempo fa il Centro Impastato aveva lanciato la proposta della creazione a Palermo di un Memoriale-laboratorio della lotta alla mafia. La proposta nasceva da una duplice esigenza: offrire un percorso storico dell’evoluzione del fenomeno mafioso, dalle origini ai nostri giorni, e soprattutto delle lotte contro di esso, dal movimento contadino a oggi; creare una casa delle associazioni che ospitasse le varie realtà operanti nella città, che spesso non hanno una sede o hanno sedi precarie e inadeguate. E per avviare la realizzazione del progetto il Centro proponeva che si cominciasse con l’allestimento di una mostra fotografico-documentaria, che riprendesse e integrasse le mostre curate dallo stesso Centro nella sua trentennale attività.
La proposta mirava a una riprogettazione del patrimonio museografico della città, mettendo finalmente in cantiere la creazione di un Museo storico di Palermo e della Sicilia. In altre città sono sorti negli ultimi anni luoghi della memoria, come per esempio i Memoriali della Resistenza. Palermo e la Sicilia hanno vissuto la lotta alla mafia come una Resistenza permanente, che ancora non è finita e che per alimentarsi ha bisogno di recuperare la memoria, ricostruendone la trama in moda da renderla fruibile da tutti i cittadini, come pure da visitatori non frettolosi, e di trovare uno spazio comune di riflessione e di programmazione, per avviare iniziative unitarie, nel rispetto della storia e dell’identità di ciascuno.
Non so che fine abbia fatto la mozione presentata nel luglio del 2005 da alcuni consiglieri comunali, con la proposta di utilizzare Palazzo Tarallo, in via delle Pergole, come sede del Memoriale; come si ricorderà, la proposta di utilizzare Villa Pantelleria, confiscata ai mafiosi, come Biblioteca della legalità, non si è potuta realizzare, per la pretesa dell’amministrazione comunale che le associazioni coinvolte in quel progetto (il Centro Impastato, il Centro Terranova, la Fondazione Costa, il Centro Pio La Torre) affrontassero le spese di restauro. Ma questo non vuol dire che non si possano trovare altre strade, individuando un altro bene confiscato alla mafia o coinvolgendo nell’iniziativa l’Università, che in questi anni è riuscita ad avviare il restauro di immobili prestigiosi, per lungo tempo condannati all’incuria e all’abbandono, come dimostrano le recenti iniziative di aprire i cantieri di restauro ai cittadini.
Credo che le associazioni più seriamente impegnate, le scuole che da anni svolgono iniziative di educazione a una legalità non solo formale, gli istituti universitari, l’Università nel suo complesso possano essere disponibili per portare a compimento un progetto che qualificherebbe il patrimonio culturale cittadino e regionale e possano insieme contribuire a rinnovare le politiche istituzionali, ben note per la disinvoltura con cui si sprecano milioni di euro in iniziative che di culturale hanno soltanto il nome.
Qualche parola, infine, sui sindacati, in particolare sulla Cgil. L’anno scorso, in seguito a una mia richiesta, i dirigenti della Camera del lavoro avevano assicurato che avrebbero posto quanto prima una lapide per ricordare Giovanni Orcel, il segretario dei metalmeccanici ucciso dalla mafia il 14 ottobre 1920, sul luogo dell’assassinio, all’angolo tra Corso Vittorio Emanuele e via Collegio Giusino. La lapide ancora non si è vista e nell’aprile scorso avevo proposto al segretario regionale che la mostra di cui parlavo prima venisse inserita tra le iniziative per il centenario della Cgil. La proposta finora è stata lasciata cadere e nella mostra dal titolo “I costruttori” ospitata all’Albergo delle povere la Sicilia era quasi completamente assente. E dire che il ruolo del sindacato nella lotta contro la mafia è stato fondamentale e il suo tributo di sangue altissimo. Spiace che la memoria di quella storia non trovi l’accoglienza che meriterebbe tra gli eredi dei suoi protagonisti.
