15-17 gennaio: a Palermo, Simposio internazionale “Cosa nostra e le mafie nel nuovo millennio”, organizzato dal Centro “Pio La Torre” e dal Dipartimento di studi su Politica, Diritto e Società. Relazione di Umberto Santino: “Il ruolo della società civile nella lotta alla mafia”.

Dicembre
1 dicembre: a Palermo, presso la sede del Centro, conferenza stampa sulla sottoscrizione che, su richiesta avanzata da più parti, si è aperta per esprimere concretamente solidarietà alla famiglia Impastato, in seguito alla sentenza con cui Giovanni Impastato è stato condannato per aver “diffamato” l’avvocato difensore del capomafia Gaetano Badalamenti, condannato all’ergastolo come mandante dell’assassinio di Peppino Impastato. Umberto Santino, presidente del Centro, e Giovanni Impastato, vicepresidente, informano sull’andamento della sottoscrizione e sulle iniziative già svolte e in programma in Italia e all’estero.
Sono stati raccolti circa 42.000 euro che saranno utilizzati per iniziative antimafia.
3 dicembre: a Roma, presso il Teatro “Ambra Jovinelli”, festa per i quarant’anni di Magistratura democratica, con la proiezione del film “I cento passi” e la partecipazione di Giovanni Impastato e Andrea Camilleri.
4 dicembre: a Palermo, presso la Sala delle lapidi del Palazzo municipale, convegno internazionale sul tema “L’Europa, le droghe, la lotta alla mafia, per una strategia europea antiproibizionista”, organizzato dal Partito della Rifondazione comunista e dal gruppo parlamentare della Sinistra unitaria europea e della Sinistra verde nordica. Presiede Marco Assennato, introduzione di Giusto Catania, interventi di Luigi Ciotti, Sergio Cipolla, Laura D’Arrigo, Francesco Forgione, Cesar Jerez, Pien Metal, Francesco Piobbichi, Umberto Santino, Chiara Tamburini, conclusioni di Giuseppe Di Lello.
9 dicembre: a Cinisi, funerali di Felicia Bartolotta Impastato, madre di Peppino, morta il 7 dicembre: manifesto del Centro “Ciao Felicia” e “saluto laico” di Umberto Santino.
10 dicembre: a Termini Imerese (Palermo), incontro con le donne che si sono mobilitate in seguito alla crisi della Fiat.
11 dicembre: a Monza, su uniziativa del Circolo “G. Impastato” di Rifondazione comunista, incontro sul tema “Peppino Impastato: la memoria, la legalità”, con Giovanni Impastato, Gianni Barbacetto e l’assessore comunale Vincenzo Ascritti.
18-19 dicembre: ad Agrigento, seminario internazionale sul tema “Mediterraneo, pace e diritti?”, organizzato dall’Arci, con relazione di Umberto Santino su “Mare nostrum. Mafie e Mediterraneo”.
20 dicembre: lettere al sindaco di Cinisi, perché intitoli la piazza centrale del paese (attualmente intitolata a Vittorio Emanuele Orlando) a Felicia e Giuseppe Impastato, e al parroco di Cinisi e al vescovo di Monreale con la proposta di promuovere iniziative di riflessione sul ruolo della Chiesa cattolica nella lotta contro la mafia e nella società siciliana.
31 dicembre: a Ragusa, partecipazione di Giovanni Impastato alla marcia della pace indetta da Pax Christi.
